When I was waiting for Xavier's arrival and making his baby quilt, Finnian became very interested in the sewing process. He is fascinated by how the "stitching train" works. So! My first sewing project after Xavier was born was a quilt designed by Finnian. He chose the fabrics from my stash and together we cut strips, chose the order and laid it out. I'm still not a super quilter, but I'm learning more each time. The back is black and white blocks of flannel, with green "tracks" quilting it all together. He sleeps with this blanket every night, so I suppose it was a hit!
After the blanket, the next order of business was making something for Isaac. He's been really wanting a backpack because he's already counting down the days until preschool (next September, yes). Together we picked out this super cute Dr. Suess fabric and I used a Made By Rae pattern. Thanks for the pattern reference, Jennifer! I lined it in canvas and heavy sew-in interfacing for structure, but find it still a little soft when there's something heavy in it. Oh well! Isaac loves it and wore it proudly to the library to pick out potty books yesterday.

And, a little book bag for Finnian's easy readers. He picked the green fabric, but that whole line was amazing - bright and bold. Loved it.

Great pics.... Loved them.
