Murphypalooza Day 19: On the verge

It looked like it was so close on the map, but still we had about 5 hours of driving left today. Everyone was up bright and early so we hit the road. Xavier was not pleased, but really, all the kids have resigned themselves to car seat time.

We drove through the desert, stopped for $5/gallon gas and spent our last time in the middle of nowhere. Then all of a sudden, we were in L.A. sprawl and we did the first thing anyone should do upon arriving in California: go to In-n-Out.
We said our goodbyes to Route 40 (been with us since Tennessee) and Route 66 (since Oklahoma) and drove to our campground 20 mins or so from our new home. We drove to the beach for dinner at a taco stand and for a ceremonial toe-dip in the Pacific.

Coast to coast. We did it! And we had a blast. All that's left is a short drive to pick up the keys in the morning. We're all ready for a bath/shower, a yard to play in, a washer and a well-stocked fridge. We can't wait until the morning!
Oh yeah, and in case you wanted just a bit more pop culture, we drove by Charley's house this evening after we went to the beach.

You know, Charley from Top Gun? The house is almost demolished but I guess the town (Oceanside) is going to preserve it.

You never know what kind of craziness you'll see when you travel.
