So yesterday, we woke up in a hotel which was a golden opportunity to wash the campground out from under nails and on the bottom of feet. We headed into old town Albuquerue (after being here for two days, Mo and I both feel like we can finally spell the word!) looking fresh and clean and hoping to find breakfast that didn't involve warm milk and boxed food.
We totally scored. On a recommendation from a local, we ended up at the Church Street Cafe, housed in one of the oldest buildings in the state. It was home for the same family from the 1700s until the 90s, when it became a restuarant. Mo declared that their heuvos rancheros were the best meal we had to that point. And there was something special about feeling like we were guests in somebody's home. It felt civlized.
After our bellies were full, we walked around Old Town, which was small but so welcoming and arty. We visited the church, listened to a Native American band and ate light and delicate snow cones when it got too hot.
Afterwards, we drove to our campground in Santa Fe, settled in, then hit that Old Town in the late afternoon.
I love the architecture, love the art and love how easy it is to walk around these small New Mexico towns. We took a sunset walk in a park overlooking the city and the surrounding mountains. It was a good day, it really felt like a vacation day.

Good morning. Love the posts and the pics, so exciting to be along on the adventure. It looks like you are getting to see so much. Tiring I am sure, but at the same, special moments. Good to see the pic of Mo strolling along on the covered sidewalk. You probably dont remember, but I was there many, many years ago. I stopped and bought bracelets there to give you when I got back home. There was an old restaurant there as well, that had a huge tree growing up through the middle. I hope you got to see it.
