the gathered clutch

This weekend I made two Gathered Clutches by noodlehead. It is amazing how many wonderful tutorials are available online. This one was simple to follow and fast to stitch together. It's hard to see in the photos but the brown fabric is gathered into pleats under the elephant fabric band.

I've been searching for the right project for the brown print. It was a gift from Mo's cousin who brought it home from Thailand. Then, my sister gave me the awesome elephant fabric (bought here - really wish I lived close to that store!) for Christmas and it seemed like a good combo.

Not sure if I would actually use it as a clutch (I didn't have a fancy zipper on hand). It's more like a large wallet, or perhaps a jewelry carrier for travel.

There are two small credit card-sized pockets and a divider inside.

Now I have lots more brown fabric and plenty of elephants for another project. Any ideas?

  1. Love it! The fabrics are very complimentary. So glad you were able to use those elephants already. Nice work! Those elephants would look cool too cut out as individual pin buttons for kids clothes. Do kids like that sort of thing? Is Auntie Lindsey totally out of the loop?! Love you. xx

  2. buttons! you're a genius! i didn't even think of that. the problem is that boy clothes are just not as much fun as girls clothes... but perhaps on a bag? hmm...
