Our first stop was the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest, a national park. Again, the photos don't do it justice, but the scenery was stunning.
The park also has an extensive amount of petroglyphs. The boys didn't think too much of them. I think they thought their sidewalk chalk doodles are better.
The park also is home to several Triassic-Era dinos, clearly the highlight. And of course, the wood turned rock.
Perfect for climbing.
Xavier slept through the whole park. That kid has been such a trooper but he is really getting tired. After lunch, we saw some more big sky, little civilization, where are the trees? country.
And ended up camping in Flagstaff, where we'll stay for the fourth of July. We strolled the downtown and hit a fabulous playground before bed. The most exciting part? The train station, which was a transcontinental railroad station, where multiple freight trains barreled though during our visit. Xavier couldn't get enough so I guess that means we have three transportation lovers in the family.
Choo choo!
