a day for little dreamers

On Saturday, we visited our local airport that was hosting Coast Guard Aviation Day for the cadets. It's been a long time since the boys have seen Coast Guard aircraft up close. The last time Mo was in a flying billet, Finnian was a baby. So while they know that Daddy's a pilot and they know "Daddy's helicopter," it's a little like Mama working on a boat or any other parent fact that they've never seen. They just don't really believe it.

Regardless of the personal connection, they had a fabulous time crawling around the aircraft and touching anything and everything they could. Most of the time there was spent running around the tarmac and pretending to fly. Isaac in particular is just taken with all the same things Mo is: aircraft, sailboats, tractors, me. Ha!

After the airport, we swung by the Academy for lunch during the football game. It was another beautiful fall day. With snow in the forecast this week, we're trying to soak up every last piece of sunshine. The boys really enjoy seeing college sports so much more this year. Football games are a really big deal because the guys high five the kids on their way out of the locker room at halftime. After seeing how much the boys loved their high fives, several weeks ago, some of the football studs even gave Finnian and Isaac team posters, signed by all the players. It was so thoughtful. The boys promptly required that we hang the posters in their room. They share a small room. And now, Finnian's poster hangs on one wall, and Isaac's hangs directly across from it.

The Bears lost a nail-biter, missing a last second field goal that would have won the game. Finnian cried in the car because he was so distraught.

I guess it's hard to see your heroes come in second.

  1. Love this post... great pics too.

PS, remind me not to sway the boys into becoming fans of Any Cleveland Sports team.
