When I was visiting a dear friend of mine several years ago - she had 3 babies at the time, I had 1 - her well behaved, cute-as-a button french bulldog peed on the basement rug. No one had time to clean it up and my friends told me they'd get to it in the morning. At the time I could clearly see that cleaning up after the dog was the lowest of priorities. Their lives were FULL! But I was amazed. Really? You just want to wait until the morning?
Let me tell you, now I totally and completely understand! I love our dogs, but their needs come dead last. Especially in the winter, when I can't just hose them down while we all play outside.
So today we made up for our borderline neglect and gave them a day at the salon at Petco.
Truly, it was mostly for selfish reasons, as I really am starting to fear that we own a "dog" house. You know, one of those homes where it just doesn't smell fresh. We ask almost everyone that visits if they can smell it and everyone assures us no. Almost a little too eagerly!
Either way, Tully and Otis were bathed today. And, their ears were cleaned, toenails trimmed, crevices checked, coat brushed and perfume applied.
They smell positively fresh. And got some frilly candy cane collars too.
Amazing what a little soap and TLC can do.

Wow, someone else admits that their pets took a back seat when they had kids!!! yay!!! My two cats...I don't even remember their names. They used to be my babies..I carried them around like babies! I would take hundreds of photos of them and make my friends look at them. SO I feel you! Oh, and I tried to tell my child-less friend how the cats took a back seat and she was appalled! I felt stupid and like a bad person. She now has an infant...I wonder if it's too early to ask her if she now knows what I mean!
